Lyric Stage, Dallas County’s only locally produced professional musical theater company, presents the first local production of the Tony Award winning musical RAGTIME, April 22-May 7, 2005 in the Irving Arts Center’s Dupree Theater, 3333 N. Lyric Stage closes its 12th season with RAGTIME. This epic musical by the award winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens and book writer Terrence McNally paints a nostalgic and powerful portrait of life in turn of the century America. Based on E. L. Doctorow’s distinguished novel, RAGTIME intertwines three distinct stories that poignantly illustrate history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, and hope and despair. Lyric Stage’s production will be the first local production of this 1998 Broadway hit.

The RAGTIME cast includes Wendell Holden, Jr. as Coalhouse, Kia Dawn Fulton as Sarah, Bob Hess as Father, Mary Gilbreath as Mother, James Wesley as Younger Brother, Brian Gonazles as Tateh, Lois Sonnier Hart as Emma Goldman and Christine Cunningham as Evelyn Nesbit. Richard Rollin, Alex Hebert, David Staggers, Randy Dobbs, Ryan Roach, Ben Giddings, James Williams, Sheran Keyton, Paul Ducet, Susan Metzger, Vicki Dean, Helen Reikofski, Doris Howard, Stormi Demerson, Vertecia Hodge, Chesa Starlette, Michelle Jewett, Diane Robertson, Cedric Neal, Shane Hurst, Eric Hopkins, Dayton Dobbs, Ivan Jones and Mathew Valah round out the company.

Antionette Dipietropolo will direct and Sheila Vaughn Walker will conduct and musical direct. Scenic design is by Wade Giampa, lighting design by Susan A. White and costume design by Billie Boston.

RAGTIME runs April 22-May 7, 2005 in the Irving Arts Center’s Dupree Theater, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. Performances are Thursday-Saturday evenings @ 8:00 PM with matinees @ 2:30 PM on Sundays and on Saturday, May 7.
