BACK WITH THE BEST
A Season of Tony Award-Winning Musicals in Concert
2021/2022 Season
Producers Catherine Carpenter-Cox and Christopher J. Deaton are thrilled to welcome audiences and artists back to Dallas’ historic Majestic Theatre for Lyric Stage’s 2021/2022 season BACK WITH THE BEST: A Season of Tony Award-Winning Musicals in Concert. This 28th Season kicks off in October 2021 with a Pops Concert of Broadway’s most beloved music, and, in the new year, features three Tony Award-Winning Musicals in Concert all with the Lyric Stage Orchestra live on stage: RAGTIME, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, and CABARET.
Why “in Concert”?
After our nearly two-year hiatus, and as all theaters continue to navigate through reopening, it was and is our desire to get as many artists back to work as possible, as well as to (safely) produce high quality productions of great shows, for which Lyric Stage has become well-known. By producing “in Concert” for our 28th Season, it not only allows us to do those things, but also puts the storytelling and the performances of our artists at the forefront, which we believe to be the most important part of any of our productions.
What does “in Concert” mean ?
Lyric Stage has been producing fully-staged musicals with live orchestras “in Concert” since our 5th Season in 1997/98. These staged concerts have always been produced with the full cast and the full orchestra for each show, with all of the music, dialogue, staging, and choreography performed just as it would be in the traditional sense. The only real difference with our “in Concert” productions is that there are not traditional sets or scenery, and, depending on the show, there might not be full or traditional costuming.
